Beer Feast...
We’re a little late getting our weekly blog penned this time around. For good reason! I normally wrap up the week on a Friday with the blog, but this last week didn’t really end. After another busy week at HQ we headed over to our first festival of the year. More on that later. During the week, we were most excited to brew a full batch of Chaos Theory. The first time we brewed this was as a one off special for the York beer and cider festival last year, with our friends (and festival organisers) Steve and Denise. We loved it so much we're now on our third brew of it. We've had some really good feedback on this one, and think we've found an interesting combination of flavours with honey and marigold flowers. Sweet, soothing, and easy drinking with a nice low bitterness in a silky smooth oatmeal pale. Cant wait to have this one back!
We also racked a fresh batch of Avalon to cask, and Disco King to cask and keg. The IPA we’ve currently got in tank, Swerve Driver, is set to be the hoppiest beer we’ve released so far. Being hopped at every stage of the process certainly helps, but about half way through that, and it’s all kinds of tasty! Our first use of the Centennial hop… what were we waiting for! It’s brought an interesting lemony quality to the beer we’ve not had before, which is going to go very well with the remaining hop additions of Mosaic and Amarilllo.
The main event for us last week was the Indie Beer Feast in Sheffield. We were so chuffed to be invited along to this, especially with it being the first running of this festival. The brewery bars we were alongside were incredible. It’s always awesome to share a space with some of our favourite breweries. Near us were Blackjack, Brew York, Black Iris, North, Lost Industry, Torrside, and Abbeydale. Also there on the day, Mad Hatter, Thornbridge, Elusive, Magic Rock, and Fourpure, and Vertical Drinks. Any beer geek’s perfect day out which of course includes us! We had such a good time pouring our beers, and trying everyone elses. Thanks to Helen for volunteering on our bar, such a good laugh and a disco all day long! Special thanks to Jules for organising such a great event. We hope it will be back next year! This week, we’re finally launching our collab with Ridgeside: Sassafras, dandelion and Burdock sour. We’ve been excited for this for a while now. Thursday night sees both breweries heading over to Whitelocks/Turks Head in Leeds for a joint tap takeover and a ticketing tasting session with Ridgeside head brewer, Matt, and myself. Sounds like a fun night to us, hope to see you there!
